Route assignments are important parts of setting up a Contractor. To manually assign a route, see assign a route. Read further if you are interested in setting up a route assignment between two or more organizations in Mover.
This article covers the following:
- Automatic route assignments
- Set up the connection between the two organizations
- Go to Auto Assignment
- Add a new rule
Automatic route assignments
This article describes setting up an automatic route assignment flow. When a route is generated, if it meets the conditions of a route assignment rule, it gets automatically assigned to another organization. In that way, your logistics flow can be fast and efficient.
When a rule is created, it considers any routes that are created after the rule creation point in time. No routes are assigned back in time. If a rule should no longer apply, you can simply delete it.
1. Set up the connection between the two organizations
If not already set up, read more here on how to connect to another organization.
2. Go to Auto Assignment
In the Route owner organization, go to Routes > Auto Assignment.
It is the Route owner that assigns the routes, typically a Route Planner. If a Contractor has a Subcontractor, the Contractor also needs to assign its routes to this Subcontractor. The page looks like this:
3. Add a new rule
You can create rules based on different types of conditions. A priority will determine which among two valid assignment rules takes effect, with a higher value taking precedence over lower values.
The different conditions that can be used are as shown below:
No conditions
This rule will assign all routes from the route owner to the selected organization. This can be used as a default assignment. Using a priority of 0 here makes sure that any other rule with a higher priority takes precedence over this rule.
Based on route tags
This can be used to separate out routes with specific settings as designed during route planning. For this example, the route planner is set up to generate some routes with the tag Mover and some with other tags. The routes that have the Mover tag will be assigned based on this rule, to Mover Logistics. Other routes may be kept for your own execution, or given to other organizations based on different rules.
There is an AND field and an OR field to allow flexible assignment rules to be set up.
Based on the start location
Rules can be set to assign routes based on whether the route start location is within a map area (see below). Combining this with a priority can make any routes started within an area go to a specific area over another.
A flexible and adaptable rule set
Tags, maps, and priorities combine to allow complex and adaptable setups of route assignments so your orders can go to the proper organization for any situation.
