What is the Timeline view and how do I use it?
Introduction to Timelines
Getting Started with Timelines
Accessing Timelines
- Log in to the TMS.
- Go to 'Routes' in the menu.
- Select the 'Timelines' tab to open the overview.
Understanding the Interface
The Timelines view displays Routes planned for the current day as a timeline representation of Stops and Driving times.
The Timeline is made by boxes and lines:
- Boxes represent Stops. The boxes’ length shows the Task time.
- Lines show Driving time (dark blue) or Waiting time (light blue) between two Stops.
The Color Coding of Boxes shows the Stop Status:
- Blue boundary only: the Driver has not yet arrived (the Stop is in Status “Not visited”).
- Blue boundary with a left-side marker: the Driver has Arrived, and the Stop execution is in Progress.
- Blue fill: the Stop is completed.
Line Styles for Driving/Waiting Progress:
- Dotted line: Driving not yet started.
- Continuous line: Driving completed.
A red line marks the current moment in time.
Clicking on a Stop will open a side panel with more details about the Delivery.
Customizing the Interface
You can customize the interface to suit your needs:
- Time Perspective: Choose from “Planned Time”, “Actual Time”, or “Planned and Actual Time” for different insights.
- Filters: Narrow down the Routes using filters like Date, Status, Assignment, etc.
- Time Zone: Select the time zone for Route execution (defaults to your system's time zone).
- Columns: Add columns to the overview for essential information. Columns can be rearranged.
- Zoom: Use the “+” and “-” buttons to adjust the Timeline's zoom level.
- View: Save your preferred filters, time zone, and columns for future use.
Planned Time
The default view shows Planned Time.
- Shows the Route as it was created during the Route Planning phase (and after any manual modifications that have been applied to it).
- The display compares the Route's progress to the Planned schedule, highlighting any deviations.
How to use this view to monitor routes
- If the Driver has already completed Stops at the right of the red line, the driver is ahead of schedule. The more Stops completed, the more the Driver is ahead of schedule.
- If the Driver has not yet completed Stops at the left of the red line, the driver is behind schedule. The more stops not yet completed, the more the driver is delayed.
Actual Time
- Displays what exactly happened on the Route and when: when did the Driver arrive at the Stops, when did the Driver complete the Stops, how long time did it take at the Stops, how long time did the Driver spend driving between two Stops, etc.
- If the Route is still In Progress, everything that has already been completed is at the left of the red line, and at the right of the red line you will see the Current Estimates (i.e., updated estimates based on live conditions on the Route)
How to use this view to monitor routes
- When the Routes are already completed: see in a timeline perspective when the Routes were started and completed. Also get an overview of deviations on specific Stops.
- When the Routes are still in progress: you can quickly see when a Driver is expected to finish a Route. See who will finish first and last.
Comparison between Planned and Actual time
In this view, the two different time perspectives are compared with each other:
- the one in light blue (first) is the Planned time,
- the one in darker blue (second) is the Actual time.
How to use this view to monitor routes
You can quickly view how a Route was executed (or is being executed) compared to the plan:
- Did the Driver use more or less time than planned?
- When did the Driver get delayed?
- Is the Driver tracking the Route progress correctly in the Driver App?
You can also do more general analyses:
- Which Routes need attention (i.e., are delayed compared to the plan)?
- Is my route planning too optimistic or pessimistic?
- Is the planned driving time sufficient?
- Is the planned task time sufficient?
FAQ
- How do I switch from Planned to Actual time?
You can select among these options in the dropdown menu in the top of the page
- Why is my Route missing one stop? It goes from stop 16 to 18.
If stop 17 is cancelled, the Timeline only shows you the non-cancelled stops, and the Route has been re-estimated.
- How can I access the Route details from this page?
Click on Route ID: go to the first column on the left in your standard view
